On February 15th the Tulsa Youth Rowing Association traveled to Wichita, KS to compete in the Shocker Sprints.
Emma Reynolds won the Women’s Junior event in a time of 7:29.7 and also won the Women’s Junior 500m sprint in a time of 1:40.2. Emma heads to Boston to compete in the CRASH-B sprints on March 1st.
Isley Steger won the bronze medal in a time of 9:11.8 in the Women’s Junior Lightweight Category.

In the Men’s Novice race Logan Lewellen competed against college athletes and finished a very respectable 5th in a personal best time of 6:54.4. Lewellen also placed in the silver medal position in the Men’s Junior 500m sprint. Additionally, Riley Shea placed 7th in the Women’s Novices competing against college athletes. Obrieann Gniech placed 4th in the Women’s Junior 500m sprint.

In the team 1000m race, members of TYRA paired up with Thomas Rex (who now rows for Kansas City rowing club and competed for TYRA a couple of years ago) and placed a very respectable 3rd against college and adult athletes.

OKC Riversport Erg Challenge
On Feb 22nd, the TYRA team traveled to Oklahoma City to compete in the OKC Riversport Erg Challenge. Athletes competed over a distance of 2000m. Logan Lewellen led the charge by winning the gold medal position in a time of 6:56.2. Hailey McMahan placed 2nd in the junior women’s coxswain event in a time of 8:45.4. Samson Derricot won the bronze medal in the Junior Men’s Novice Lightweight in a time of 7:56.8. Riley Shea won silver in the Women’s Junior Novice in a time of 8:34.7.
