We Are Hiring Coaches!

hiring coaches

Tulsa Youth Rowing Association seeks coaches and people with communications experience for its competitive, recreational, and outreach rowing programs. Currently, the organization has about 20 members (recreational and competitive) but will be expanding this year to accommodate an increasing interest in this sport and growth in our outreach programs. These positions require a motivated and organized leader who enjoys working with middle and high school rowers and can motivate and cooperate with rowers and other coaches.

The amount of time required to fulfill the requirements of the position will vary based on the position. Still, applicants can expect to coach from three to five days per week if hired to coach/support the competitive, recreational, and outreach programs. Applicants seeking to coach the competitive team (novice and/or varsity) should also be prepared to travel with the team on at least three weekends (per school semester) to out-of-town regattas and attend meetings and various team functions. Various coaching positions (recreational and outreach) can be flexible amounts of time spent depending on job responsibilities

Erg Ed and RowingSTEM After School Coordinator (immediate need)

The Responsibilities and estimated time requirements each week/month for this position are as follows:

  • Support our Erg Ed program in operation in Tulsa Public Schools in Physical Education Classes. Specifically:
    • Coordinate with the TYRA Director of Outreach and Tulsa Public Schools athletic administrative staff to organize the management of the Erg Ed program. This responsibility includes organizing potential field trips for TPS students to visit the boathouse or the rowing tank at the University of Tulsa.
    • Assist Tulsa Public School staff in identifying students interested in taking the next step toward water rowing outside the Erg Ed program.
    • Visit and support physical education staff five days a week to provide coaching support and help deliver the curriculum.
    • Provide technical support and rowing machine maintenance for the 20 Concept2 rowing machines. This would include servicing the machines, keeping them in good order, and ordering replacement parts for the machines from Concept2 or consulting with Concept2 on machine maintenance.
  • Ensure that the program has continued support in terms of cleaning materials in the teacher box to help support the use of management of machines in schools.
  • Provide logistical, organizational support, and coordination for the transport of machines between partner schools at the end and beginning of each session.
  • Coordinate the administration of post surveys, including collection and sending results to the George Pocock Rowing Foundation. (3 hours a month)

  • Organize/assist with an Erg Ed competition day at the end of the year.
  • Provide coaching support for schools and organizations that want to visit the University of Tulsa rowing tank facilities.
  • Provide support for our RowingSTEM after-school and summer programs. Specifically:
    • Run after-school RowingSTEM programs and/or support faculty at each school. We have three programs, so each would need 2 hours of support weekly.
    • Support recruitment efforts in each of our partner schools which would involve visiting the schools once a month to hand out flyers to promote after-school programming.
    • Support after-school programming by attending professional development offered by partners such as The Opportunity Project when offered during the work hours of the day.
  • Assist with collecting post surveys as part of a feedback loop to ensure continuous improvement of programs and improvements in Erg Ed and STEM programming.

This will help with recruitment, fundraising, community presence, and accessibility efforts.
  • We would also like to recommend that there be two coaches to assist with the gROWth program.
