This summer Tulsa Public Schools was awarded an Erg Ed grant – providing for the purchase of twenty new Concept2 rowing machines, training for physical educators, implementation of the Erg Ed curriculum, and sustainability efforts over the next two to five years. The Erg Ed program will benefit as many as nine middle and high schools in Tulsa Public Schools, where a unit of rowing will be taught in physical education classes. As a result, a more diverse range of students will have access to the sport.
Tulsa Youth Rowing Association has partnered with Tulsa Public Schools to support this program and has committed to providing resources not covered by the Erg Ed grant. As physical education classes in each school complete their rowing unit, the rowing machines must be moved to another school. We would like to acquire a dedicated trailer to provide a cost-effective and efficient solution to this challenge and thereby help to expand the reach of this program. Additionally, a custom-fit trailer would provide more reliable means of transportation that would keep equipment damage under control and therefore upkeep costs to a minimum.
It has been estimated that the cost of this trailer, including materials and labor for outfitting the trailer for safe transport, is $10,000.
At this time, we are asking for support to purchase this trailer to help further our mission. Your support of this need would be recognized on the side of the trailer with your logo and organization name featured.
To help visualize the trailer we have in mind, we provide the above photo of a trailer that is currently in operation serving an Erg Ed program in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Various naming and sponsorship levels are available and a donation of $2500 will result in your organization or name on the side of the trailer in recognition of your support of outreach youth rowing in Tulsa.
If you wish to find out more about this request for funding or wish to donate, please contact TYRA outreach director Neil Bergenroth at neil@okrowing.org.
